HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
It’s been far too long since I last posted on here, however life is life and you have to roll with it and whatever it throws in your path, but here I am again, hopefully for much longer, but not making any promises (wink wink).
Sooo, I know it’s super cliche to start hitting the gym after scoffing down dinner after dinner after dinner during this Christmas Holiday season, and for the record I certainly ate well (hehehe!), however I have never had a reason to diet or really go to the gym to lose weight before, so this is a whole new thing for me.
To some who have seen me or know of me, they might not recommend that I go to the gym, but after giving birth to my 2 amazing baby girls, I currently have diastasis recti (abdominal separation) which is common during pregnancy, but the truth is, I haven’t done anything to repair mine and 1 year later I still have the post pregnancy bulge. I mean someone actually asked me the other day if I was pregnant!? I mean come on man! I realised that this is getting waaaaaayyyy out of hand.
I currently weigh 11st 8lbs which is the heaviest I have ever been, even during both pregnancies I never weighed this amount and both girls were over 7 lbs each time. Some might not agree that this weight is a lot however for my height which is 5’4, I am overweight.
So over the weekend I joined Xercise4Less and today I went to the gym for the first time in at least 6 years. I did some brisk walking on the treadmill for 20mins gradually increasing the speed to 5.5mph then went into a pilates class, which I was advised would be the best method of exercise to help heal and repair the diastasis, as conventional crunches and sit ups would only make the abdominal separation worse.
Surprisingly I really enjoyed it!! The gym layout was great. They have a ladies only space which was nice and private and right next door to the class studio. I left feeling encouraged and it definitely increased my happiness level and having gone on my own, everyone was really friendly and welcoming.
I am following a particular workout programme which is designed for diastasis recti and also using some supplements to help cleanse and detox my body, but I will talk about that in another post.
I’m really excited to continue this journey. I hope I keep it up LOL!
Wishing you all a wonderful 2017!
